Eligibility

To nominate or become a recipient of the McGuire, Mitchell, Smiley Family Scholarship (MMSFS), the family member must be from the lineage of Mose McGuire, Frank McGuire, Kattie McGuire-Mitchell, Roosevelt McGuire, Willie McGuire, Charlie McGuire III, or Cherry McGuire, and meet the scholarship criteria.

Eligibility and Governing Rules for Scholarships

• High school graduate entering college/university taking a minimum of 12 registered credit hours. Must provide verification from the college/university. Acceptable items may include a class schedule on college/university letterhead.

• College graduate providing proof of graduation. Acceptable items may include a copy of the degree or acknowledgement of graduation on college/university letterhead.
• Must be a descendant by birth or adoption of the McGuire, Mitchell or Smiley (MMS) family. The lineage must be from Mose McGuire, Frank McGuire, Kattie McGuire-Mitchell, Roosevelt McGuire, Willie McGuire, Charlie McGuire III, or Cherry McGuire.
• Completed scholarship application form.
  • Applicant must include the name of parents and grandparents, in addition to the name of the descendant/lineage as noted above.

• A recent photograph.
• An applicant can receive funds from the family scholarship a maximum of two times (high school graduate entering a college/university with a minimum of 12 credit hours, or graduating from a 4-year college/university).
